The CWA leadership and the CWA/NETT Academy have led an aggressive and targeted campaign to address the threatening pace of technology-driven change that continues to transform the news media industry. Significant progress has been made in identifying key trends and developing strategic responses for stabilizing CWA media worker job security and wage earning potential. However, it is vital to continue to invest in “transformational resources” to establish, strengthen and expand technology based job skills and worker knowledge. This training provides CWA members with a sustainable career path during ongoing technological change, and job role transitions in the industry.
Survey
A survey will be conducted to identify the needs of the Media Sector members.
Training
Training activities will focus on delivering content that support technology driven media skills for video camera operation, editing and digital photography to our CWA news media workforce. The courses will continue to be delivered in a hybrid format which provides locals with instructor led, on-location courses that utilize mobile labs that replicate workplace software and hardware job skill requirements. Each course will incorporate hands on workshops, self-paced tutorials, and lab exercises related to actual work assignments.
Web based learning aides for reinforcing learning transfer once the trainee is back on the job will be made available through the CWA/NETT training library. Funding support from the Strategic Industry Fund will be used to cover continuing education tuition/registration, books, and provide trainees with access to training software/hardware as well as the instructors travel expenses.
