Description A Fiber Optics Installer has a general understanding of optical fiber installation, connectorization, splicing, and testing, is familiar with optical fiber, connector, and splice performance characteristics described in TIA-568, ITU-T G.671, ITU-T G.652 and Telcordia GR-326 A Fiber Optic Installer can perform connector endface evaluation as described in TIA/EIA-455-57B, is proficient in optical loss testing as described in TIA/EIA-526-14A, and understands the installation requirements described in articles 250 and 770 of the National Electrical Code (NEC®). A Fiber Optic Installer is proficient at the installation of connectors on various types of fiber optic cables using multiple types of connectors, and can perform mechanical and fusion splicing.
How it is offered Online instruction with Hands on labs conducted over a weekend at a location determined by the group
Duration This is a 40 hours course with an additional 16 hours hands-on labs
Certification The exam is offered at the end of the hands-on portion of the course on location- 75 questions and given 2 hours to complete. The certification is valid for 4 years with yearly maintenance to keep the certification valid.
How do I pay for the course Currently there is a special project that will cover the cost of the course in CWA Districts 4 ,7 & 9 and Telecommunications & Technology Division. All others will need to utilize company benefits for the course.
